This is the most awaited month of the year for people of Odisha. Kartika Brata is observed for the whole month. According to Hindus, someone who undertakes Kartika Brata will get happiness in life because this is the most sacred month for both Supreme Gods, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The Kartika Brata would complete on the 'Kartika Purnima' (full moon day of Kartika) day, which is the last day of the Kartika month. On this day, devotees take holy dip in Pancha Tirtha of Puri and visit Jagannath Temple to get the blessings of Lord Jagannath.

The last five days of the Kartika month is counted highly auspicious and is known as 'Panchuka'. During these five days large number of visitors came to Puri and visit Lord Jagannath Temple. The three Deities (Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Sudarshana are dressed in five different Veshas (attires) each day during Panchuka.

Deepawali, festival of lights, is observed on Amavasya tithi, the fifteenth day of the Kartika month, every year. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Kartika Amavasya is also celebrated as Kali Puja. In Odisha and other parts of Eastern India, Goddess Kali is worshipped on this day. This is also known as Shyama Kali Puja.

Anla Navami is celebrated on the ninth day (Kartika Shukla Nabami) of the Kartika month in Odisha. This day is of great significance at the Sakhigopala Temple near Puri. On this day devotees get the darshan of the feet of the idol of Goddess Radha in the Sakhigopala Temple.
