AIR

Bhubaneswar is the nearest Airport- 105 kilometers from Barkul and 130 kilometers from Rambha and 110 kilometers from Satapada. Major domestic airlines have flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Raipur, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai.

RAIL

The Howrah-Chennai rail route of South Eastern Railway touches chilika lake at Balugaon, Chilika, Khalikote and Rambha. The nearest railway stations are at Rambha and Balugaon, both of which have train connections to Kolkata, Puri, Hyderabad and Chennai. From both Balugaon and Rambha buses are available to the lake. A part of Chilka lake is visible from the Howrah-Chennai railway track.

ROAD

Chilika can be visited through many points but the most convenient places are Balugaon, Barkul, Rambha. National High Way No. 5 touches Chilika at Balugaon, Barkul and Rambha.
State transport corporation buses and private buses regularly available between Chilka, Puri, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Auto rickshaws are also available at Balugaon for Barkul (6 kilometer).
OTDC and other private tour operators also provide luxury coach buses and taxis from Puri and Bhubaneswar(both A/C and non A/C) at reasonable rates.
A part of Chilka lagoon is visible from National Highway No. 5.

CRUISE

To visit the islands as well as to cruise on the lake, visitors can avail the water transport facilities provided by the OTDC limited, stationed at Barkul and Rambha, and of the Revenue Department at Balugaon. They provided both motorized yacht and speed boats. Country boats can also be hired from private operators at these places. Ther is a floating restaurant of OTDC at Barkul for cruising while dining.
